Speech Therapy

In outpatient therapy, speech therapists begin by administering several standardized tests to get a sense of a patient’s weaknesses. Patients are then interviewed about their work, home, and family responsibilities. Therapy is focused on tasks that require both communication and cognitive skills, and is highly customized to a given patient’s needs.
Speech therapists help patients relearn what they need to know. This could include:
  • Reading road signs and maps
  • Operating a tablet computer or smartphone
  • Making a grocery list or paying household bills
  • Using the public bus system
  • Shuttling their children to various appointments and activities
